How does AI change higher education?
As the hype of AI in education transitions to important campus conversations about practical applications and impact, campus leaders and faculty are faced with urgent questions regarding how to respond. Leaders and faculty must explore both operational improvements and instructional opportunities.
While AI enables new modes of creation, it also introduces complexity in terms of assessment, evaluation, ethics, fairness, literacies, institutional technology infrastructure, and the suitability of the current higher education system to meet ongoing learner needs, including the development of new digital literacies.
This workshop will explore how education is being impacted by AI and assess where change will be most dramatic in both the near and long term. The focus will be on practical planning actions leaders can take on campus to both respond to emerging trends and to plan for a more systematic future. A holistic AI response will be promoted, bridging technology needs for AI, institutional cultural capabilities for AI adoption, and addressing the needs of students, notably in managing the transition to a complex, uncertain world of rapid change.
Who should attend?
This workshop will focus on strategy, vision, policy, and obstacles in AI planning and deployment. As such, it will be of interest to university leaders and faculty, as well as to industry partners seeking to understand the potential of AI in education settings.
